Hometown: Hutchinson, Minnesota Major(s): Journalism and Mass Communication (with an emphasis in Professional Strategic Communication: Advertising) Why he chose the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities: "I chose the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities because it provided a great educational experience close to home at a competitive cost. Coming from a small town, I really wanted to go to a school in the city. I was drawn to the University of Minnesota because of the almost limitless opportunities that it offers. I came into the U of M undecided, but was interested in psychology." "The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities was a great place to be undecided because it offers more than 135 different majors. After taking an introductory course in journalism, I decided to apply to the School of Journalism in the College of Liberal Arts and was accepted into the program my sophomore year. I also really enjoyed the metropolitan atmosphere and the exciting social events that the University offers." Favorite University of Minnesota class: "My favorite class at the University of Minnesota was Jour 3321: Basic Media Graphics. In this introductory course, we learned basic design principles and applied them to in-class projects such as a graduation party invitation, and a brochure and Web pages for a non-profit organization. I really enjoyed this class because it introduced me to basic graphic design using Photoshop and InDesign." The One Experience Students Shouldn't Miss: "The biggest regret I have from my undergraduate experience was that I did not study abroad. The University of Minnesota has one of the strongest study abroad programs in the nation, with over 300 programs in over 60 countries. The University really encourages students to participate by offering study abroad scholarships and programs that vary in length, as well as U of M credit for classes taken abroad. There are opportunities to study in a foreign language or in English. I have a friend who completed a three-week program in Ireland and another who did a summer-long program in London, and both really enjoyed their experiences. Above all, everyone that I have talked to about studying abroad highly recommended it!" |
