Fall 2008 interim ACT and SAT test score policy

For fall 2008 admission applications, we will accept ACT or SAT test scores sent directly from the testing agency, ACT or SAT test scores that are provided on an official high school transcript, or ACT or SAT test scores reported by a high school guidance counselor on the Counselor Form.

Beginning fall 2009

For admission, honors, and scholarship application review purposes the University will only be able to accept ACT or SAT test scores sent directly from the testing agency. To ensure consistency in working with students, we will not be able to make exceptions to this policy for fall 2009 applicants and beyond.

We are communicating with schools, community organizations, and students one year in advance, to ensure that students are aware that only ACT or SAT test scores sent directly from the testing agency will be accepted for admission, honors and scholarship consideration. Students who are considering the U of M are encouraged to indicate the U of M school codes when they take the ACT or SAT, when there is no additional charge to request scores be sent to the U of M.

Test registration and school code information

Our prospective students receive test reminders in the mail and via email. These communications provide the registration deadlines and also instruct students on how to indicate the U of M school code when they take the test.

If a student takes multiple tests, including both the ACT and the SAT, we will always use the strongest test score sent to us in our application review. Therefore, we recommend that students list the U of M school code directly on the exam when the score can be sent to our campus for free. (After the exam, the testing agencies charge a small fee to have scores sent to colleges.)
